Wolfenberger CD: Longtime
Cincinnati singer-songwriter Dave Wolfenberger has released a
delightfully refreshing and poignant new CD, ''The World of the
Satisfyn' Place'' on the local Blue Jordan label, which
specializes in local folk-based songwriters.
Wolfenberger has always been an
engaging lyricist in his previous two releases, but they have
been in a more traditional folk vein. This project is a more
musically interesting mix of pop, light jazz, and a touch of
country with a traditional folk sound. Wolfenberger uses many of
the excellent musicians featured on other Blue Jordan releases
from the likes of Katie Reider and Janet Pressley to such as
Josh Seurkamp, Tyler Brown, and Dave Eberhardt.
Wolfenberger's release comes after he's
completed an exciting year as a member of Victori a Williams'
back-up band the Creek Dippers, where he has toured around the
world with the iconoclastic artist playing drums, bass and
piano. ''With Victoria, there always seems to be an instrument
laying around you can play,'' Wolfenberger says.
He leaves next week for a short Creek
Dippers concert in Italy. Wolfenberger will split off to do his
third solo tour of several Italian cities, where he has found an
appreciative audience, saying the Italians seem to be into
''American rural cultures.''
''The second time around they actually
knew the words to my songs and I certainly don't sing in
Italian,'' he said. ''They love to figure out the translations.
After the shows they ask you about the words. ''Is that a song
about a gorilla'? 'No, it's about a girl.' ''< p> Before Europe,
there's his own CD release party.
Wolfenberger plays at a CD release gig
6 p.m. Friday at Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods.
Opening act, Katie Reider. $6 cover with proceeds to a fund for
damage to the site caused by recent flooding.
